The Burana Tower is located 12 km south-west of the Kyrgyz city of Tokmak on the road to the Kegety Gorge of the Kyrgyz Range, on the left bank of the Chu River. Its construction dates back to the X — XI centuries. The initial height of the tower was not less than 40 m, but its upper part was dropped by an earthquake. Today, the height is 21, 7 meters. Next to the tower is a "rock garden" in which are collected: the so-called "balbals" - ancient tombstones, ancient millstones, and stones with rock paintings. Upon arrival in Cholpan Atu, we will stop to see the open-air museum with rock paintings. In general, petroglyphs are dated within the 2nd millennium BC - VIII century AD. However, most belong to the period of the VII-III century BC. According to the general opinion of researchers, this is the heyday of the Scythian-Saka animal style, which was especially widely reflected in the rock art.
