Yamg
Yamg is one of the Wakhan villages located in the Pamir – Wakhan valley. The famous scientist Sufi Muborakkadam (1843 to 1910), lived and worked here. He was a comprehensively gifted man - he is known as a theologian, talented inventor, musician, poet and good calligrapher. Although Sufi was a self-taught scholar, he is often called Muborak Wakhan and even “Leonardo da Vinci from Yamg”, thus emphasizing his genius and talent.
Having spent all his life in his native village, Muborakkadam came up with many inventions that served people faithfully. On the glade near his house, even today one can find the solar calendar invented by him - a large vertical stone with a hole in the center, thanks to it Sufi Muborakkadam defined holidays. In the house where Muborakkadam lived a museum was opened, where different works of the scientist are displayed. Here you can find paintings of the artist, which depict people and animals, painted patterns, a loom of unusual design, as well as musical instruments made by hands of Sufi Muborakkadam.
The name "Wakhan Valley" comes from Wakhandarya - once a large and turbulent river that flows in this valley. Here, 90 kilometers from the district center of Ishkashim, is the famous village Yamchun. Near the village is one of the oldest fortresses of the Wakhan Valley, namely, a fortress with forty towers built more than 2,000 years ago, surrounded by three rows of thick walls that had a length about 950 meters. Inside the fortress, which is also called the “Fortress of the infidels” (Kafir-Kala) or “Castle of Fire-worshipers” (Zamor-i-Otash-parast), an ancient Zoroastrian temple has been preserved.
In the village Yamchun is located the famous hot spring Fatima-Bibi, named after the wife of the prophet Muhammad. Water source has healing properties, it has radon and other useful elements, allowing it to be used for medicinal purposes. The source beats out of two places of the rock, called the sleeves of the clothing of Fatima. Due to the deposits of minerals in the water, the sleeves became multi-colored and shimmering in green, yellow and brown. Water all year round has a temperature above 40 ° C.
